CES Las Vegas 2013 Preview!

A day before the Consumer Electronics Show opens its doors in Las Vegas we take a look at a few hotly tipped offerings set to steal the show this year:

At least 3 manufacturers are heavily rumored to be showing their latest ultra high definition (UHD) sets. Westinghouse Digital, stalwarts LG and Sony are all poised to wow the attendees with screens ranging in size from 50 to 110 inches and 4K resolution. And some of them are OLED – yes!!

Critics have been quick to point out the lack of content available at such high resolution – just like they did when standard HD was touted. This time they are even more mistaken as the Sony model ships with 10 movie titles in UHD, with more promised. High-end gaming has been using the resolution for a while and the new nVidia handheld console is 4K ready via HDMI.

With these 4K sets hitting the mainstream and sub-$20k prices starting to appear its only a matter of time before we see the true ultimate format emerge. 8K TV – with a staggering 7680×4320 pixels, a top frame rate of 120fps and what can only be described as room shaking 22.2 sound.
